When Did We Decide That Nudity In Art Is ‘Pornography’?!

This is how mainstream ‘social’ ‘media’ would like you to view my art – see the painting in full, below

Hi dear friend,

If you’ve been following me on ‘social’ ‘media’, you’ll know that my art was censored (yet again) on both Facebook and Instagram last month.

This had me raging, taking my art off the two platforms, and thinking VERY deeply on what the whole issue means: for me, for my business, for my art’s visibility in the world, for the direction that mainstream is leading folks, for the future of human consciousness that is not being exposed to art, what happens to all the artists, what happens to people when they are no longer permitted to see imagery of unclothed human beings… without them being in some way sexualised.

detail from Sharing Ancestry, Creating Future painting, 2019

Ironically, the image in question (this time) did contain a big, happy, golden erect male member, BUT this is NOT a ‘SEXUAL’ IMAGE: this is a painting which speaks to the deep harmony between a man and a woman, as she prepares herself to take in his lineage, his genetic and familial heritage, holding the space for hers and his family stories to become one – in her gestating their child.

His lingam is a holy transmitter of his deepest essence and power: it is neither weapon nor means of attacking or hurting the femine, nor is it offensive or against family values (haha – how ironic!) or any other negative connotation (as our culture projects onto it).

The beautiful engorged lingam is a divine symbol of connecting worlds; the lingam and the sperm which it transports, are all about connecting spirit, life, vitality, love, fortitude, stability – sharing it from the masculine into the gmeinne, so that it may serve the harmony of our shared future.

The painting speaks to the profound humility and SERVICE that we bring to the world, in our vulnerability in love, and in making new life.

detail from Sharing Ancestry, Creating Future painting, 2019

It also speaks of this deep feminine alchemy; the sacred offering-up of her very identity and story, her vulnerability and potent ability to O P E N on all levels, to accept the other, and all that comes with him. Her strength to both hold all of her own sentience, herstory, sense of self, whilst simultaneously accepting another’s reality and family line to literally come through her, be woven into and out of her…

detail from Sharing Ancestry, Creating Future painting, 2019

As I speak to in the video below, the sensuality in this context, is something VERY DIFFERENT than the peak-orgasm-focussed, immature male, superficial titillation, or the ‘porn model’ of ‘sexuality’, which is so prevalent-and-at-the-same-time-‘forbidden’ (‘forbidden’ meaning really, commercialised and marketed like fuck, ubiquitously) in our modern world.

This ‘forbidden-and-yet-everywhere’ is one of the major methods of bondage into the patriarchal power/ energy hierarchy. We’re all are trained early on to:

  • separate our ‘sexuality’ from the rest of our physical, mental, emotional and energetic body
  • to see this ‘part’ of us as something ‘rude’ or ‘bad’ and so to be kept hidden
  • at the same time, to have our emotions, minds and physical bodies to be stimulated artificially and superficially, into tension and instant gratification

Which pulls us completely out of the path of self-knowledge, integration, healing, expansion and illumination, that sensual union is ultimately all about. In many ways, I feel that even using the word ‘sexuality’ or ‘sex’ is hugely misleading and distracting from the truth of the matter.

This is a video of this new painting illiustrated in this blog – and my feelings around it having been censored on Instagram and Facebook as ‘pornographic’.

So the whole event of art and ideas like these being censored in the mainstream, is intimately entwined with a) the non-mature masculine concept of sex as peak/ tension orgasm (hugely limited view of human potential!), and b) the de-evolving of human consciousness into the collective presumption that nudity equals (the afore-mentioned kind of) ‘sex’ – that the human body has no other significance nor can it be interpeted in any other way.

This essentially gives us a profound collective sense of our lives being COMPLETELY MEANINGLESS AND SHALLOW – and gets us into this drive of desperately trying to titillate ourselves, be that sexually, with food or drink, substances or clicking on nice pictures and stories online.

Which in turn leads us further into this spiralling atrophy, because what we are seeing in mainstream online, is the systematic removal of profoundly important images of ourselves – images from art in particular, which DON’T tow the corporate-values party line. The System will have you think that the sacredness of (especially women’s) wholistic, sentient ecstatic existence, should be shut down, hidden and labelled as ‘dirty’.

detail from Sharing Ancestry, Creating Future painting, 2019

Censoring the human body is no small issue: we have had the human body in art and at the centre of community life for millennia – since the beginning of time, in fact. The human body without clothing is a vital symbol of ourself, ourselves; of what we inherently are, what we feel, what we represent and can be, and much more. The fact of not adorning the body, not putting clothes on, gives us the directness that art needs – to speak of truth, vulnerability, unmasked reality – without being bound to a particular time and place. The naked body is what allows art to speak across centuries and cultures, languages and norms.

The more I unravelled this ball of tangled, contrary ideas and assumptions, the deeper I realised that it goes… I speak more strongly in previous podcasts around this (here, about leaving social media, on my Patreon pages), as I have swung from being heart-broken to raging to THIS MUCH CHANGE to oh, there’s actually a whole other world out there of people like me who are also leaving the mainstream for the same reasons!

So I’m also now seeing-feeling-understanding the gift in having been censored and effectively strong-armed out of the mainstream. I speak in this month’s podcast about how something that can seem huge and challenging, often holds treasure in its heart, if we’re able to see how it is aligning us with our deeper truth:

This month’s podcast is on ‘Spontaneous Holy Work’ or following one’s Creative Flow – allowing our work to flow through us…

The gift that I speak about is something that I’ve always worked with: when something (seemingly) disruptive, disappointing, or even soul-destroying comes along – we have two main choices; we can try to resist it, or we can move with it and through it. The latter being the more productive and rewarding path, which leads us to deeper understanding of the world, our place in it, and our direction as a collective of human being.

detail from Sharing Ancestry, Creating Future painting, 2019

It might seem like we should be martyrs, welcoming pain or suffering, but it’s actually a suggestion that in not being attached to hardship, we’re able to move through it (and get beyond it) much more quickly and efficiently – and we’re able to glean great lessons and treasures from it.

When we really bring our full presence and attention to our personal struggles, without trying to control them, to get rid of them, or fight against them – when we simply accept that this is part of life, this experience has purpose and potential in it, and that it will pass… we allow something precious to come through us, which simply cannot exist when we’re tensed up in combat towards whatever is happening around us.

detail from Sharing Ancestry, Creating Future painting, 2019

There’s a subtle-but-quantum difference between seeing what is happening around us as meaningless or random, and seeing it as having deeper underlying purpose and reason.

Clare Galloway artist http://www.clareartista.com

When we look with the latter perspective, we can feel ourselves as an integral part of the universe, and we can feel our way forward too – we can feel what wants to be said and done, for the good of all things, in this moment – rather than scrabbling full of fear to survive in a world which appears to be unfolding chaotically – even violently, dangerously – our tense minds and feelings always somewhere other than now.

Although it might seem (on the surface/ at first) that having art removed from the mainstream might threaten the very soul of the world… Actually, it might make profound sense to remove the real art – art that transmits deep truth – to a safer place, away from the collective projection that ‘bodies without clothing are inherently wrong’. And thus to make it all the more visible by its absence…?

10 Basic reasons why not-having-money is an incredible gift

Hi dear friend – a blessed midwinterfest and beautiful new year to you, and welcome to The Art Of Life blog-newsletter-podcast-blog-whatever-you-want-to-call it…

This is a video about why not having money can – counter-intuitively – be an incredibly enriching experience: in it, I go into ideas like why are we pulled along by money-gurus who insist that if we just push harder or present more cleverly we’ll be rich (this only works for a specific percentage of people), why doesn’t the world value art much more than it does, how can we find better platforms when the mainstream is censoring or diminishing us, or not valuing us…

Meanwhile, here are 10 basic reasons why not having money is an incredible gift:

  1. It helps us to appreciate the value of what little we do have.
  2. It helps hone our focus significantly, and to prioritise where we might have been vague about what we wanted/ where we were headed.
  3. It’s a chance to step off of the conveyor belt of simply-consuming, and into a deeper perspective of ‘what’s going on here, anyways?’
  4. It lets us see that the conventional world might not be valuing what we’re doing – and so we might want to focus even more on our uniqueness and our dreams.
  5. It engages our resourcefulness and ability to adapt, in ways that rarely happen when we have a good steady income.
  6. It can help us see that, actually, the world does not grind to a halt, or implode or turn into chaos and terror, just because we can’t pay a bill.
  7. It gets your engines revving, where you might have been being a tad unenthusiastic or blase about life.
  8. It might even feel lighter and less pressure-full, ironically: if you don’t have money and can’t pay for things, you can avoid all kinds of pressures to join in or conform that, if you have the resources, you might feel obligated to participate in/ contribute to.
  9. It makes you more appreciative of others in difficulty, especially the poor, and it forces you to reach out yourself, in ways that we tend not to when we have all our needs met through transactions.
  10. And finally – having no money brings a kind of quiet and peace into the everyday – an elegant simplicity, that one cannot access to easily when there’s money to be spent…

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this big subject… What with the cost of modern life, the throw-away quality of so many things we depend on, the tightening of online sharing laws, the use of austerity measures to further disempower whole populations – we live in a time where struggling to get by seems to be more of a norm than ever, and our collective values seem to be being eliminated altogether. I’m going to be speaking on multifarious aspects of money and deep creativity, in the coming year.

One of many artworks in my catalogue, see many on Etsy

Also, two big things in the next few days-

a: THE 2 for 1 PAINTING OFFER finishes in just a few days (31st December, midnight CET!)- download my catalogue here, and/ or visit my Etsy shop here – and contact me as directed in the catalogue, if you are interested in a particular piece.

b: MY ART IS BEING REMOVED FROM FACEBOOK AND INSTAGRAM, due to their aggressive, offensive censorship approach (i.e. labelling my paintings and ideas as pornographic – which they very much are not) – I’ll be sharing in the future on Patreon, and also on the new Ko-fi, for folks who are interested in my expressions and offerings….

If you value what I’m sharing, please consider signing up as an ongoing patron, or putting a tip in my tip jar:

As ever, thank you from my heart and soul to all of you who continue  to encourage and practically support my work – you are all so  much a part of what I’m creating – I’m working on new ways to make  my art  available to the people who love it the most, and to combat it being  hidden from and censored by the mainstream.

With much love and gratitude,

pleasure… art gifts… midwinterfest at the arthouse

Ciao, dear friend…

Welcome to my podcast – especially to new subscribers from the Womb-Centred Healing Temple summit ♥

This is one of the fullest podcast-newsletters I’ve ever done, so get a cuppa and settle in…

And there’s an über-special 2-for-1 painting offer this month – don’t miss that!

This month’s podcast is on pleasure; not surface pleasure, not peak pleasure, but the deepest, most fulfilling-expanding-interconnecting pleasure that is our birthright – and that, unfortunately, we are so very distracted from pursuing.

The podcast shares how vital holistic pleasure is, both to our well-being and to our fulfilment in life – and how letting-go is so essential to this fullest pleasure.

Most of us spend most of our lives avoiding letting-go: we find security in accumulating and compounding situations, rather than releasing, giving away (e.g. wealth/ belongings/ our home), truly relaxing. This intense focus on gathering things to us, to keeping our cupboards, wardrobes, bank accounts, etc, full – it gives us little room to feel or to imagine, and so we become emptier and emptier.

This is why art is such an important activity: it both brings us – through doing it – into a spaciousness, which permits all things to relax and release, and, when we spend time around art, it shows us (invites us into) that spaciousness which the artist inhabits.

The distinct release that comes from allowing the creative flow to come through us, and of not being attached to the outcome – it’s not like a peak orgasm, but like the long, slow building of the orgasmic state; an ongoing symbiotic, awoken, sentient, state-of-connectedness that comes about from our being aligned and enlivened in our life.

Art is like a microcosm of that state, as it’s ultimately all about – not stepping into, but being flow – allowing flow to come through us.

This kind of allowing, cultivated over many years, and honed and mastered, is like the big letting-go, e.g. of stepping out into the new by selling one’s home and moving into the unknown of a different landscape, culture, community, language, climate…

But ‘big letting-go’ is something that folks rarely do, because they equate leaving and letting go with losing things, rather than with the profound gaining of freedom, of movement, of energy and time and space… of newness and possibility, learning and growth, of constructive challenge and positive – stimulating – change.

We don’t do big-letting-go much, and so we lose all our power of adaptation; our ability to be challenged and made new.

This holding-on, over time, becomes the absence of deep pleasure, because by default, holding onto things is a kind of deep tension… which translates into ingrained tensions, neuroses, fears-as-the-norm.

Our reality becomes stilted, because we don’t know what it is to have that space of unknowing – the void of creation, the space between things, in which there is peace and…. the pleasure of being alive.

I’m not suggesting that we all should follow the thrill of abandoning a life and work, and throw ourselves into a vulnerable state by having an adrenaline-fueled trip to foreign climes…

But I am hoping to inspire you about what it might feel like to let go more… To give yourself spaciousness in all things – free of being occupied with stuff, tasks, pressures: to feel your way into that emptiness both within yourself and around you – and to get more art in your life!

The wonderful Veronica Thai invited me onto her Curious Monki podcast…

We’re speaking about how we access creative power – and use it in the everyday, to live happily and super-fulfilled!

…accessing the place of surrender and flow by using art.  As Clare says, we all have a creative engine within ourselves.  When we access this energy, we charge ourselves up and suddenly become filled with bright ideas, solutions and all the beautiful things that want to be expressed.  Art is how we can be reunited with our innate primal sense of truth.

the intuitive artist 101…

The Intuitive Artist 101 is the new gateway course to The School Of Real Art – The SORA. I’m excited because the next phase of The SORA has been a long time gestating, and it is now putting up buds, forming shape…

You can watch a brief intro to The Intuitive Artist 101, above – it describes  what the course will contain.

You get access to the whole course as it unfolds, if you join me on Patreon (all levels of patron reward get access to all my creative outpourings). See The SORA website for much more info on the courses currently available.

the womb-centred healing temple…

This is the introduction interview to a longer discourse that I had with the incredible Sama Morningstar – I was honoured to be invited to speak as a womb-centred-healing creator, for this potent summit of deepest feminine wisdom, and the Womb-Centred Healing Temple.

We talk in the summit about how I have used art to access dialogue with my core, with my creative centre – how I began intuitively, but then became adept at working from my womb, from the creative fulcrum: how I healed my own life, using art as this primal tool to access the primal voice, truth, wholeness – to wake up my very cells and my deepest passion for life.

midwinterfest in guardia sanframondi…

My neighbours and I in the Via Dietro Gli Orti, alongside other local artisan folks, will be creating a beautiful, atmospheric event from the solstice through to Christmas eve…

I’ll be creating a solstice mandala installation, and setting up a shop with my art and books, and there will be all kinds of singing, food, crafts and festivities… There’s a lot going on in the medieval quarter this winterfest, and so it will be a gorgeous end of the year community-spirit-fuelled event…

Thank you from my heart (and womb) for listening, for reading, and for connecting with my work – it is always genuinely an honour to be seen, heard, connected with…

Follow me, etc via the links below – I so love to hear from you!

Much love and oodles of midwinterfest beauty and nourishment to you,

INTEGRITY

Hi dear friends – this is a podcast on integrity – in art and in life – and other clareartista news…

Life and work has been incredibly challenging, inspiring, satisfying and awful this year – sometimes it seems like the darker things get, the brighter the colours shine in contrast – that the more wholly challenging life is, the more our potential to be fully integrated in the mystical more-than-the-sum-of-the-parts comes to the fore…

My work is taking a deep turn – I’ve had time whilst recuperating and rebuilding my health, to really reflect on all that I’ve created over the past 30+ years of my art practise – and to quietly claim my confidence in the more profound elements, or perhaps ‘the profound wholeness’, of what my work means in the world.

Queendom front cover

There’s a new newsletter sign-up bonus on this website – phase one of a complete transformation – just let me know if you’re already subscribed, and you’d like a copy. It’s an ebook copy of Queedom – art and words on the awakening of the sacred feminine in our time: on how important it is for everyone that women are supported to flourish in all the breadth and depths of their potential.

queendom back cover.jpg

It’s based on the Regna book, from my exhibition in the castle last winter (and in italiano). Transforming it into English was spurred on by having to create a special sign-up bonus for my part in an incredible summit on womb-centred healing.

I’ll be offline for the whole of October (on Patreon only), taking care of myself, writing up some new plans for big change in my living and working arrangements… I’m looking for the perfect home (simple, affordable, with a beautiful situation and outlook, and a garden), and am beginning to make a plan around finishing and selling the arthouse.

So much good creative vibe to you,

new art

LA ROCCA

LA ROCCA – 80 x 80 cm painting in oil on canvas – now in the clareartista shop on Etsy

LAROCCAstory

The hill in this painting is La Rocca, a pyramid-like, forested, ex-volcanic mound, which sits just to the west of Telese Terme, in Italy’s Campania region.

La Rocca is an incredible vision at certain times of the day and in specific weathers –  often a cloud sits above it (as it does over Vesuvius), and is lit by sunlight in a dramatic way. The hill sits on the bottom of the valley and rises spectacularly.. in a way that gives it a certain authority – a specialness.

The painting began as an entirely different piece: it was a large sketch of a chayote (sechium edule), that I used as a demonstration piece for my very first Vacation With An Artist guest… you can see it in the background in the early-stage snapshot, above.

One morning, when I was on the way to market, there was a particularly striking vertical cloud sat on the hill, with another perched above it. I stopped the car and made these two wee sketches by the side of the road.

Making sketches directly from the landscape is something fairly new in my work – I especially like to gather images when I’m moving around, and see new views of hills and mountains here, or skyscapes-in-relation-to-the-land that move me. Sometimes they take a long time to come into paintings – I might come across an old sketch and suddenly have the additional feeling and knowledge from having seen the place over time – and am called to paint it.

Probably because the sketches were very small and lacking in detail, the painting didn’t move forward for some months: it sat quietly throughout the winter, at the back of my studio… like you see it here – more wintery-looking.

Then, inspired by having absorbed the view of the hill many other days, I launched into it again in early summer. The image began to speak in strongest reds and blues – echoing the sensations that seeing it just-after-dawn roused.
I have this sense of La Rocca hill being a symbol of earth power – a historic vent for nature, a pressure point and a place where the earth reaches up to meet the sky – there’s something mystical and potent about that, as there is about many other places in this region… The movement of the land – Italy being a seismic zone – meaning that nothing is so solid as it is in more stable landscapes. The metaphor and history, the poetry and stunning imagery of such a great lump of rock (the literal translation of ‘rocca’) – I love when those things all overlap and build up into a perfect storm… and a painting just cries out to be made.

I explain a little more, and show you some close-ups, in this video…

You’re most welcome to request hi-res photos of details shown in the video – just ask via the message box at the bottom of the page.

My inner circle on Patreon is a vital source of nourishment in my work as an artist: it’s where I talk directly with my special folks, who collectively support me to live my creative work to the very fullest. In return, my patrons get super-discounted prices and freebies, tons of behind-the-scenes and personal stuff that I share nowhere else,  one-on-one time with the artist – and everything that I create under one roof.

GUILT AND CREATIVE FREEDOM

header-july-20185.jpg

Why do we have so much guilt around ‘indulging’ in art?

Ironically, delving into our creative uniqueness is one of the core primal practises that can bring our lives into harmony – but we often stop ourselves even beginning, because there’s this sense of ‘I shouldn’t’ around making art.

It might be the sensuousness, or the fact we’re simply taking the time to do something deeply personal. But the most common aspect that stops us dead in our tracks, before or after we actually get a brush mixing up colours, is guilt – that sense of being ‘bad’ or ‘wrong’ for trying.

This ‘wrongness’ is something that a creative could struggle with literally for decades; it comes from a deep place, when we were being programmed as children into believing that teacher/ parent/ older sibling or peer is right, and we are not – and we should shut up and do as we are told.

THE WHOLE VOICE (detail)

THE WHOLE VOICE (detail)

This cycle of what is essentially a potent abusive dynamic, is put in place when we’re just setting foot into the wider world outside of our home. If it doesn’t get drummed into us in our first school, it certainly will when we go on to the second phase, where by now most of the kids will be implementing the power hierarchy alongside the teachers.

Guilt takes multiple forms as we evolve in our lives – if we don’t attend to it, take care of ourselves, nurture our inner landscape, it might eventually become so compacted and atrophied, that it’ll raise up and shout to be heard – it’ll become a monster, instead of a  symbiotic garden.

So the creative’s work is to listen, express, make sense of, and transform all guilt. We can use it as a compass, even; wherever there is an ‘I feel bad’ around our creative activity, we should face it and ask it – what would it feel like if I didn’t feel bad?

THE WHOLE VOICE (detail)

THE WHOLE VOICE (detail)

What art, pleasure, indulgent activities do, is they connect us to our core – to our source of power, and thus to our ability to e.g. harvest energy, be inspired, create ingenious and beautiful things…

The system, consumerism and materialism, work on the fact that we’re NOT connected to our core, and all that free energy and deep satisfaction and enjoyment.

Our culture is constructed on our neuroses and guilt, and our superficial needs, which are hyped up into a frenzy, so that we’re always looking ‘out there’ for a solution, when the answer’s right here, inside each and every single one of us.

STEPPING INTO THE VOID

header July 2018

The idea of moving forward into ever-uncharted territory – how does that make you feel?

We live in a time and reality where much of what we digest is prescribed – it’s created far away from us, often from materials very disconnected from nature, and we purchase our e.g. food, information, power, inspiration, through a process of exchange that removes responsibility, energy, depth and meaning….

We end up stuck in repeating circles of simply purchasing what is offered to us, rather than making life choices that truly reflect our deep values and our immense appetite for learning and growing.

So how do we make life more authentic, more dynamic, more meaningful?

We simply step out into the void: into the less-mass-produced, into the simple and natural, and into our own unique path and vision.

Even spontaneously taking a new route, and interacting with whatever/ whoever we meet on this road; even going to sleep at an unusual hour, or waking up to feel what the world is like before the sun rises; even trying an unfamiliar dish, or a spice that has never touched our tongue…

We have opportunities, grand and wee, in every minute of every single day of our lives, to experience something richer and more expanded than we were in the previous moment – when we remove our attention from the flotsam, and allowing the new to flow towards us, through us.

Painting coming to completion this year: connected with finding our deep intuitive voice, our inner wisdom, our channeling the divine creative, by listening to our sentient body.

Living in the void, or at least delving into it frequently, is an incredibly potent portal.

It’s the creative friction between the comfortable and the non-comfortable – and so it’s the space where all new things are created: it’s like the spaces that nature fills – those borders and cracks, the place where one surface meets another one.

The creative friction, the cultural exchange, the alchemical melting pot – all have this massive potential, if we can step into them empty, and let them fill us up anew…

So this month’s Art Of Life podcast is on how we step into this space: how this is a vital part of our creative expansion, and how, when we make a habit of entering the mysterious… we enhance everything – from our sense of self to our ability to channel our dreams, our vitality and our enthusiasm about life!

Other clare artista news this month:

The Arthouse tent will soon be being mounted again in the gardens below Guardia’s famous facade!

Download a PDF of THE WHOLE WOMAN brochure in English and Italiano

A dear friend Maya and I are initiating the very first WHOLE WOMAN workshops: we’ll hold an intimate group of just 10 women in this magical setting in this circular tent, next to the Ratello waterfall.

We’ll be using yoga, drawing, sharing and sewing to bring aspects of our selves into wholeness and harmony – letting go of the negative and the old, and embracing a new idea of self in this body. And we’ll be creating a taliswoman, who we can channel our creative power into, and be guided by.

There’ll be workshops throughout July, and then in September too: we’re hoping to develop this concept of women empowering their selves, and to develop this big network of women through THE WHOLE WOMAN group on Facebook. Perhaps we’ll even be travelling to your town in the future!

Another glorious Vacation With An Artist took place at the Arthouse this month:

I just said goodbye to the wonderful Sajili, after her highly successful week exploring her creative potential in Guardia Sanframondi.

She’d come all the way from Mumbai in India, and had never drawn or painted before!

We had a truly glorious week of quiet adventuring, whilst I guided her to bring her subtle spiritual message of partnership and harmony, into being.

Because she was such a willing and passionate studio guest, it was easy to support her finding her visual expression – all work should be like this!

BREAKING THROUGH THE BIG NO

CIAO! WHAT DO YOU FEEL ABOUT ALL THE ‘NO’ IN OUR ‘NORMALITY’?

Though it seems on the surface that we live in a free, democratic, abundant reality, modern culture is in fact mostly based on a complex series of deeply negative norms…
In this month’s creative inspiration podcast I go into into how we’re fed perpetual untruths about our huge creative potential – and how art can get between the layers of limitation, and blast them open…!
DSC_0024.jpg
This year has been challenging and glorious so far. I’ve had some health concerns that’ve brought me to a deeper, happier place; they’ve been reminding me to give it everything, as this life is precious!

Seeking healing, I’ve also been astounded at how it’s the simplest things, readily available, that are the best cures for the whole… Which in turn reminds me how a successful life is about being rather than doing: it’s about letting go and letting things be as they are – which leads me to being satisfied with all that I have, and focussing on the parts that are working, rather than navigating from what is imperfect.

my ‘millionaire’s panorama’ from the balcony of my €10K house – sometimes I forget the profound value of this astounding view – then I remind myself, and am like… wow

My podcast is about how we get lured into obsessing about ‘lack’ and ‘not-quite-right’, or ‘not-quite-there-yet’. We’re trained from early on to focus intently on that which isn’t, instead of being grateful for and making use of that which is – this helps folks sell us everything; from washing liquid to courses in spiritual entrepreneurship.

Other creative news from the Arthouse this month – this new art on brick…

Click on the image to see my Etsy shop – the new pieces are being released there, one by one, throughout June. (The one in the lower-right is already winging its way to a new home in the USA.)
Alongside the release of these new artworks, I wanted to tell their story, as it’s about breaking out of conventional thinking and non-creative mind-blocks, too!
This short video (9 mins) is on how this big body of artwork might never have come into being, if I’d taken heed of the sage advice ‘why don’t you just get a man in to do the job?!’
Making Space To Make

My book Making Space To Make is also coming along nicely this month – I’m on chapter 11, and it’s starting to feel like a beautiful, meaningful book! Above is an illustration from the Taking Back Time/ Taking Responsibility chapter. I’ll be sharing excerpts from it over on Patreon in June, and hope to have it published on Lulu Books around midsummer.

creative inspiration podcast: FREEDOM!

HI! WELCOME TO MY MAY NEWSLETTER!

So the world’s becoming respectful of our individual privacy – BIG new European laws about how we’re allowed to communicate with our audience are coming into play, May 25th.

This will mean more SPACE – uninterrupted natural peace and alignment – us going about our lives without ping-ping-ping-ping – marketing tugging our collective consciousness away from what it’s really meant to be doing.

What if it even heralds the tide-going-out on consumerism? It’s a step towards being less in bondage to buying, that is for sure, and it means that we’ll have much more control than before over our personal data, and how these are used for target marketing.

As an artist, it makes me happy, that we’ll be less inundated with BUY-BUY-BUY – that we’ll have more freedom to stand back and feel our way into what we actually want in our lives: what’s really needed, what’s good for us (like more real art!)

The new privacy laws mean YOU MUST BE SUPER-CONSENTING TO JOIN ANY/ ALL MAILING LISTS – I’ll be sending out a form for you to click enthusiastically on, in the next week, if you’d love to stay on mine.

In the meantime, back to creative freedom and living like a happy artist:

Freedom is a subject much discussed in the world: human rights, democracy, freedom of movement, economic freedoms, freedom to practise one’s religion and to express one’s gender or sexual or human uniqueness. It’s a favourite subject of mine, as there are subtle-but-immense differences between concepts of freedom and actual, individual, full-bodied, spiritual-energetic freedom.

My work is occupied with the latter, with how we unblock everything that’s preventing the fullness of what should be flowing through us – how we remove armouring, a re-feel numbness, wake up stagnancy and bring pleasure back into what might have been aches and pains. For generations, the body has been relegated to a kind of mechanical convenience, ordered around by the head, patched up and sent on its way when it got damaged.

But slowly we’re coming to understand the profound interconnections between inner and outer freedom: how a calm mind and body, freed emotions and energy – a being released of trauma and negativity – can live in the world profoundly more freely than one who is tense with fear.

I understand this to be a profound – real – freedom in this reality.

I’d love to hear your response to this subject in the comments below: what is your feeling around creative freedom, or freedom in your life and work? What to you feel that you need to do, to step more fully into freedom?

This is a video about the painting ‘Being Held’: it’s probably the most important piece of art that I made last year.

It talks about the feminine being held energetically by the masculine – she knows herself and commands her own energy but she needs this anchoring and containment, that she can harvest the fullness of energy, build it up, and then channel it to the masculine – and they radiate it out into the world…

As ever, thank you so much for your support and interest in my work and ideas – it is always wonderful to hear feedback and to know your thoughts and feelings on art and creative freedom, fulfilment and good living,
